Crochet collar DIY (perfect project on the go)

I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m out and about I like to have some sort of craft in my hands. Knitting is lovely, but not always practical when commuting with long needles poking out of your bag. Crochet, on the other hand, works beautifully in small pieces, which makes it perfect for days on the move.

So I finally had the chance to finish my crocheted collar project, if you remember it from the past.

If you’re curious how I made it, follow along in this post. Most of the photos were taken on the go, either while waiting for the bus or just before boarding a plane. It really is one of those little travel projects that grows stitch by stitch.

To begin, start by crocheting circles in different sizes. It’s surprisingly satisfying.

Print out the collar template (here is the PDF again) and use it as a guide to arrange the crocheted circles together. Don’t worry if it doesn’t fit perfectly. Once you’re happy with the layout, stitch everything together.

When the collar is assembled, the final step is to create the fastening. The easiest, and prettiest, option is to stitch a button or bead on the right side and crochet a loop using chain stitch on the left.
