Knitted loafer slippers for winter

I am sorry to break the news, but winter is coming really soon! So I started getting ready by knitting these lovely loafers.
I love loafers even if I don’t own any (I am planning to get a pair very soon). Meanwhile I will be wearing these 😉
Knit yours too! The pattern is here (literally in this post).
For this project you will need yarn (about 14 ply, super chunky), 5 double pointed needles (size 7, 4.5mm or any other size for the gouge required), Needle and tread.
Abbreviations used: k (knit), p (purl), sl (slip stitch), p2tog (purl two together/decrease), bo (bind off)
Gauge/Tension: 6 sts = 5cm, 10 rows = 5cm
HEEL
Cast on 20 stitches (more if you want deeper & wider fit)

Rows 1-30:
Row 1: Slip 1, purl 4, knit 1, purl 8, knit 1, purl 5.
Row 2: Slip 1, knit 4, purl 1, knit 8, purl 1, knit 5.
Repeat these two rows until row 30 (20 stitches each row).

FLAP
Cast on 10 stitches
Rows 1-5: [sl1 p9] first row, [sl k9] next row (10sts each row)
Row 1: Slip 1, purl 9.
Row 2: Slip 1, knit 9.
Repeat these two rows until row 5 (10 stitches each row).

KNITTING ROUND THE FEET
Attach knitted flap to the the heal piece by carrying on knitting the row on it (pics 1-3). At the end of the row carry on knitting on other side of the flap forming a round (pic 4). Add more double-pointed needles into to the work as necessary.

Divide stitches on four needles evenly, 7-8 stitches on each. Use 5th needle to move the work.
Rounds 31-40(work additional rounds here for a deeper front feet section): purl 15, knit1, purl 8, knit 1 purl 5 (30 stitches each round)

Round 41: purl 13, purl 2 together, knit 1, purl 8, knit 1, purl 2 together, purl 3 (28 stitches)
Round 42: purl 12, purl 2 together, knit 1, purl 8, knit 1, purl 2 together purl 2 (26 stitches)
Round 43: purl 11, purl 2 together knit 1, purl 8, knit1, purl 2 together, purl 1 (24 stitches)
Round 44: purl 10, purl 2 together, knit 1, purl 8, knit 1, purl 2 together (22 stittches)
Round 45: purl 9, purl 2 together, knit 1, purl 8, knit 1 (20stitches)
Round 46: purl 2 together, purl 7, purl 2 together, k1, purl 2 together, purl 4, purl 2 together, knit 1 (17 stitches)
Round 47: purl 2tog, purl 5, purl 2 together, knit 1, purl 2 together, purl 2, purl 2 together, knit 1 (13 stitches)
Round 48: purl 2 together, purl 3, purl 2 together, knit 1, purl 2 together, purl 2 together, knit 1 (9 stitches)
Round 49: bind off

Stitch the heel : fold the heel side inside out and join on the edge. Close the toe opening by stitching from inside.

Tuck all the loose yarn ends by pulling them inside, use a crochet hook for this.
To customise your loafers add little extras such as bow-ties, tassels or buttons.

I wish you very warm toes during the winter!
Rasa xoxo
