Off to San Francisco (Inspired by Tartine Bread)

A busy bakery kitchen with chefs preparing bread, featuring equipment like ovens and baking trays.

Guess what? I’m off to San Francisco in just an hour. I’m going alone, I don’t know anyone there, and I’m secretly hoping I’ll make a few new friends.

A few months ago I was given the opportunity to pick anywhere in the world to visit. Anywhere. And without doing any proper research, I chose San Francisco.

Why?

Because I had just fallen completely in love with the book Tartine Bread by Chad Robertson. Knowing it was from San Francisco, I imagined somewhere with lots of countryside and a touch of urban lifestyle. I was sold.

Only later did I discover that San Francisco is, in fact… very much a city.

Lesson learned: perhaps research should come before booking flights.

But hey — I’m going anyway. I’m looking forward to the adventure, and while I’m there I promise to try something I’ve never done before and pretend, at least briefly, that I’m a local.
